WHat is an orientation LEader?

Orientation leaders are your first point of contact with your UBC journey. They have all been in your shoes and know what it feels like to be in a new environment.Their role is to build community, facilitate friendships and learn from you to best tailor your orientation experience. We are proud and lucky to be the home of many student leaders from different horizons, with different passions and possessing different qualities making them all great support.

All of them however have a common goal: to make UBC Sauder feel like home.

“First off, Congrats! You made it to the Sauder School of Business!

I remember first moving into my dorm, full of trepidation and excitement for the year to come. Although I was born and raised in Vancouver, very few high school friends wound up at UBC. The Spark was where I first built my group of peers, study buddies and support group. You will find that the opportunities are endless at Sauder, so don’t hold yourself back.

For me, I've put a lot of time seeing what interests me and sticks. I’ve gone on pursuits for environmental sustainability, Krav Maga Martial Arts and Entrepreneurial/ Event planning, all during boothing!

Can't wait to meet as many of you as possible that first week of September and feel free to chat with me, regardless of how sleepy I seem!”

Shy and unsure on my first day entering the Henry Angus doors, shocked to see so many unfamiliar faces, the Sauder community welcomed me in with warm arms and very soon I found the most supportive, driven, and fun-loving community that has truly shaped the person that I have become. From encouraging me to create an event, as well as providing me with an opportunity to share my knowledge in Kenya, the Sauder community has always given me endless support. Last year I became an Orientation Leader because I wanted to help the first years find their own wonderful communities and had such an amazing experience that I am back this year! “Hi everyone! I am so excited to be going into my third year at Sauder and my second year as an Orientation Leader! The Spark has been an amazing and memorable experience, even beyond first year. As an Orientation Leader, I am excited to meet as many of you as I can, welcome you to the Sauder community, and most of all - have a lot of fun at Spark! The Spark connected me with a great community at Sauder, and I have built genuine connections and made lifelong friends through this event.
